Armed robbers made off with an unspecified amount of loot Wednesday morning from Paradise Jewelers, with the store's owner firing shots at the suspects as they sped off in a gray vehicle, the Greenville County Sheriff's Office said.
At 11:22 am this morning the GCSO received a call from the store, located at 1616 Woodruff Road, regarding an armed robbery that had just occurred. Investigators at the scene determined that two black males entered the store wearing hooded sweatshirts with their faces covered.
At least one of the suspects was armed with a firearm, the GCSO said.
Once inside the store the store employees and customers were ordered to the ground. The suspects then began smashing the display cases and taking merchandise from inside the cases.
The suspects then fled the store in a gray vehicle. Investigators confirmed that after the suspects fled the store and were driving out of the parking lot the store owner ran after the vehicle on foot firing a number of shots at the car.
At this time investigators do not have any reports of anyone being injured during the incident.
This is the second incident at the store in the past three months. The GCSO said the store also was burglarized on Nov. 12, 2012.
