The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) will hold a public hearing on March 7 concerning preliminary plans for the proposed Batesville Road project in Greenville County.

The hearing will be from 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. at Oakview Elementary School, 515 Godfrey Road in Simpsonville.

During the meeting, the public will have the opportunity to review and discuss the preliminary plans for the proposed Batesville Road project, which will run from S.C. 14 near Greer to Roper Mountain Road.

Improvements include one lane in each direction, separated by a paved median, with bike lanes, curb and gutter and sidewalks on both sides of the road. About 2,200-feet of roadway will be relocated to the west side of Ebenezer United Methodist Church to avoid impacts to cemetery property.

A new bridge will be constructed over Rocky Creek, and new traffic signals will be installed at Pelham Falls Drive, Anderson Ridge Road and Roper Mountain Road.

Another purpose of the meeting is to gather information from the public or any interested organization on historic or cultural resources in the area.

From 5 p.m. until 6 p.m., the hearing format will be informal.  Aerial displays of the entire project will be available for viewing, and project team members from SCDOT will be present to discuss the project with interested citizens on an individual basis.

At 6 p.m., SCDOT will make a brief, formal presentation about the project purpose and need, schedule, and potential natural and human impacts to the community. Immediately following the presentation, citizens will have the option to make formal, verbal comments regarding the proposed project.

Anyone who wishes to verbally comment must sign up between 5 p.m. and 5:55 p.m. when entering the public hearing.

The informal portion of the public hearing will continue during this time.

Related maps and/or drawings, environmental assessment, and other pertinent data are available for public review at least 15 days prior to the public hearing at SCDOT's District 3 Office, 252 S. Pleasantburg Drive, Greenville.  Project information, including meeting materials and comment forms will also be available on the SCDOT website (http://www.scdot.org) by clicking on the  “Public Hearings” Quicklink. For more information, the public may contact Tommy Elrod, SCDOT Program Manager, at (864) 239-6098 in Greenville, or at elrodjt@scdot.org.  Persons with disabilities who may require special accommodations should contact Lis Bleasdale at (803)737-1395.
