UPDATE: Just after 10 a.m., the lockdown was lifted at Blythe Elementary School and Hughes Academy.
Orginal report:
As police search for three men who escaped them during a traffic stop last night, two schools in the area have gone on partial lockdown.
The affected schools are Blythe Academy (an elementary school) and Hughes Academy (a middle school), Greenville County Schools spokesman Oby Lyles said in an email.
According to Lt. Tim Ridgeway of the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Marshals were following a stolen vehicle last night which they believed held two suspects in an attempted murder case in Greenville, WYFF reported.
After stopping the car near the intersection of Augusta Street and West Tallulah Drive, the four men fled on foot. One man, who was among the attempted-murder suspects, was quickly caught, but the other three escaped, including 53-year-old attempted murder suspect Javon Mack.
Two guns were found at the scene, one inside the vehicle and one on the ground near the vehicle, Ridgeway told the station.
The schools are located not far from where the car was stopped.
