Mauldin High School senior Myron Jermain Reese, Jr., of Simpsonville, was announced "Student of the Year" this past weekend in Atlanta, the school announced.
Reese won among Georgia and South Carolina high school contestants.
The competition was held on Friday and Saturday March 15-16 at the Atlanta Marriott Gateway Hotel. Reese won a $1,000 scholarship with the win.
Reese also won the Leon W. Steward Award for submitting the best credentials in a portfolio for Georgia and South Carolina participants.
Reese will compete in the National Student of the Year Competition to be held in Houston, Texas on August 6-10. This annual scholarship program is sponsored by Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
Reese is of the son of Myron Reese, Sr. and Erica Reese of Simpsonville. Mrs. Reese is a math teacher at Mauldin High School.
