School Notes: Langston Charter Middle School

Langston Charter Middle School sixth grader, Caroline Earle, washes off pumpkins for a sale at Vaughn’s Seed and Feed in Simpsonville to benefit Synergy Garden – a non-profit organization that maintains a community garden located on the campus of the Center for Community Services (CCS) in Simpsonville. Fresh produce from the garden is donated to the CCS Food Bank and given to the needy.

School Tours — Langston school tours will be offered during the month of October on Tuesdays at 8:45 a.m. and Thursdays at 12:15 p.m.. There will be no tour on Thursday, October 18 due to the school break. Tours begin at the school office, last about 45 minutes, and no appointment is necessary. Langston Charter Middle School Enrollment Lottery for 2013-14 — Prospective parents must attend one of the two remaining Application Orientation Meetings, as part of the lottery application process: Saturday, October 13 at 4 p.m. or Tuesday, October 30 at 7 p.m. and submit an application before the deadline of 5 p.m., Thursday, November 1. A lottery of all complete applications will be on November 8. Parents of former or current students with a sibling planning to enroll for next year must complete the application process before the deadline of November 1. The application will be posted on the website – www.langstoncharter.org. Call Celanie Martin, Registrar, at 286-9700, with questions.

Basketball Tryouts — Langston basketball try-outs for girls and boys teams will take place October 15 and 16 at Rocky Creek Baptist Church. 

Langston Community Service Day — October 26 is Langston Community Service Day. Students will not report to school, but will instead volunteer in service throughout our community. Students are being taught to think outside of themselves, care for others, and be responsible citizens.

Langston Lungs4Life Run/Walk Team — Join Langston’s Lungs4Life team, LANGSTON LOVES LISA, in honor of Langston Foundation board member, Lisa Stevens, who is a lung cancer survivor. The 5k run/walk and 1 mile fun walk will be held Saturday, November 3. For more information and to register, go to www.lungs4life5k.com.
