At least 15 buses broke down at various routes across Greenville County on the first day of school, WSPA is reporting.
Oby Lyles, spokesman for the Greenville County School District, said that while assurances had been made by technicians that the buses would be operational, the state's bus fleet is old and erratic.
Problems for most of the buses were discovered while the buses were still parked, necessitating substitute buses and leaving many students running late to their first day of class.
