Chick-fil-A is coming to Mauldin.

Mauidin's economic development director, John Gardner, confirmed to Patch Thursday that the popular national restaurant chain has signed a lease with Kmart and plans to build a standalone store in the Kmart Plaza on the corner of West Butler Road and Cary Street.

Other details were scarce, but Gardner said he believed the restaurant plans to be completed and open for business sometime in the spring of 2014.

Gardner also said the restaurant appears as if it will be larger than the one now serving the area on traffic-clogged Woodruff Road.

The new Chick-fil-A is not the only new business coming to that part of the city. Pending city approvals, national auto-parts chain, O'Reilleys Auto Parts, is anticipated to redevelopment and move into the current site of the old Enterprise Car Rental site at 205 N. Main Street.

In addition, a local restaurant that Gardner was unable to name, has plans to move into the old Arby's location North Main Street. Gardner said he believed the new restaurant was a "family-style, meat-and-three type of place."

Potential opening dates for those two businesses were unavailable.
