Hillcrest High assistant principal Jada Kidd, right, is congratulated for winning SC Assistant Principal of the Year on Wednesday at a surprise school ceremony.

Jada Kidd, assistant principal at Hillcrest High School in Simpsonville, has been named the 2013 High School Assistant Principal of the Year by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators (SCASA).

The award was announced Wednesday, November 28, in a surprise announcement at the school.

Kidd was selected by a panel of judges from a field of high school administrator candidates. The criteria used in the selection are set by the National Association of Secondary School Principals. The program is sponsored by VIRCO. State sponsors also include Horace Mann and Herff Jones.

Hillcrest High Principal Steve Chamness stated, “Since starting at Hillcrest High this year, Jada has been the driving force behind helping teachers find apps they can use in the classroom. She brings valuable assets that enhance our school’s curriculum.”

W. Burke Royster, district superintendent, added, “Jada has established a reputation in the District as an instructional leader. She is recognized by her peers and supervisors as very knowledgeable with the use of technology to deliver instruction effectively.”

“We are very pleased to announce Jada Kidd as the SCASA High School Assistant Principal of the Year,” said Molly Spearman, executive director of the South Carolina Association of School Administrators. “She is an excellent educator who knows how to relate to the students.”

SCASA, the professional organization for school leaders in South Carolina, has more than 3,300 members.
