Three college athletes from the Golden Strip have been named to the South Carolina College All Star Bowl watch list.
J.T. Floyd of Greenville and Sean Wright and Chris Merrill, both of Simpsonville, were named on the initial list released Thursday afternoon. The list includes more than 155 players who are currently seniors at South Carolina colleges and universities or who are Palmetto state natives playing out-of-state.
Floyd, who attended J.L. Mann, is a cornerback at Michigan. Wright, who attended Mauldin, is a wide receiver at North Greenville University. Merrill, who attended Hillcrest, is a running back at South Carolina State.
The All Star Bowl will be played at 3 p.m. March 23 at North Greenville University.
“We wanted this game to represent the best that South Carolina has to offer,” said Clayton Banner, vice president of operations for the game. “This is a great group of players and it will be tough to trim the roster down as we get closer to the game."
The Lowcountry team will be comprised of players who went to college or attended high schools south of Interstate 20. The team will be coached by Willie Jeffries, retired head coach of South Carolina State University and a member of the College Football Hall of Fame.
Players who played college or high school ball north of the Interstate 20 line will play on the Upstate team coached by Danny Ford. Ford also is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame and is best known for leading Clemson University to a National Championship in 1981.

The final roster of two 50-player teams will be announced in January.
