On Pearl Harbor Day, the Western Carolinas Red Cross announced the grand total of cards collected during its annual Holiday Mail for Heroes campaign–14,121 — a new record.
“Impressive is all I can say,” stated Ann Wright, CEO for the Western Carolinas Region of the American Red Cross. “What a fitting day to make our grand announcement, Pearl Harbor Day. Our goal was 5,000 cards. We asked the residents, businesses and schools of the Western Carolinas to support this effort and they stepped up in a huge way. Many service members and veterans will feel love and support this holiday season.”
Red Cross volunteers sorted the cards, they will then be sent to Pitney Bowes Inc., who will scan them to ensure safety and security. The cards will then be delivered to military installations, military hospitals and to veteran’s organizations in the United States and overseas.
The program recently for an assist from the National Football League. Many NFL teams participated in the program.
