Congressman Jeff Duncan

Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-3) has written an open letter to a New York firearms manufacturer, inviting it to relocate to South Carolina.

New York lawmakers recently prohibited the sale of semi-automatic assault-style rifles like those made at the Remington Arms plant in Ilion, NY.

In the letter, Duncan tells George Kollitides, the CEO of the firm which owns Remington, that:

"enemies of freedom are waging an all-out assault on the Second Amendment to the Constitution which we have sworn to protect and defend. At a time when our government is consistently thwarting the ability of individuals to own businesses, voluntarily trade goods and services, and grow our economy, South Carolina is writing a different story."

The complete letter is attached to this article.

According to Remington's website it is the nation's only manufacturer of both firearms and ammunition products. The company has been in operation since 1816.

Published estimates place approximately 1,000 employees for Remington at the plant in New York. The company's website shows annual revenue of $393 million.
