Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus gave children and their parents a chance Thursday to get an up close and personal glimpse of the show's biggest performers at the Bi-Lo Center.
The "Elephant Picnic" was attended by hundreds of children and their families at the Bi-Lo Center on Thursday. They were treated to performances by clowns and other entertainers, including the acts' elephants, which ranged in age from 7 to 56.
Did you know that elephants on average eat about 200 pounds of food a day? Or that female elephants carry their babies for a whopping 22 months? Such information was provided in a question and answer session inside the Bi-Lo Center on Thursday during the event, which is meant to give those present just a taste of what they'll experience during the shows.
And in case you were wondering who might win the Super Bowl on Sunday, one of the group's elephants will put your mind at ease, as she picked the San Francisco 49ers to prevail, selecting a 49ers flag over one emblazoned with the Baltimore Ravens' logo.
Performances are scheduled:
- Friday, 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.
- Saturday, 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.
- Sunday, 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
