There's a lot of correspondence involved when someone you know gets engaged.

There's the initial engagement announcement in the newspaper or online.

Maybe a little later you receive a save the date card, letting you know when the wedding is planned, and that more details will be coming.

Perhaps the happy couple lets you know where they are registered.

Sometime after that, you receive your wedding invitation.

But a new trend is delivering some unhappy news to family and friends of the soon-to-be-wed.

Some couples are sending out letters telling people that they are not – repeat, not – invited to their wedding.

According to AOL's Morning Rush, some people are even getting notices that they'll have a spot on the guest list only if someone else drops out.

While it's obvious that everyone you know can't attend your wedding, should you really let someone know they didn't make the list?

What do you think of this new trend? Thoughtful or tacky?

How would you respond if you got an anti-invitation?

Tell us in the comments!
