The Greenville County Sheriff's Office released surveillance footage Friday that they say shows a Greenville Police officer and GCSO deputy acted property in the Jan. 14 shooting death of Wesley Swilling.

Swilling was shot to death by two officers in the early morning hours of Jan. 14 after authorities say he approached them in the parking lot of the Law Enforcement Center with what appeared to be a gun.

The weapon he was carrying turned out to be a modified glue gun, though Swilling's family has publicly stated it is considering a lawsuit against the agencies.

Police say Swilling approached a police officer in a threatening manner as he was walking to his patrol car behind the LEC, and instructions from both the police officer and a deputy to drop what appeared to be a weapon were ignored.

The action in the video can be hard to distinguish due to the grainy footage quality, the camera that pans away from the action, poor lighting and obstruction from trees in the parking lot. However, the video does show the blurry image of Swilling, approaching from the left side of the parking lot to the right.

One camera angle shows a flurry of activity as officers fire on Swilling as he gets closer to their cars. A stillframe attached to this story does show a blurry figure, presumably Swilling, pointing an outstretched arm toward the officers.

The solicitor's office cleared both officers of any wrongdoing in the matter.
